Favourite travel experiences of the week #1

Welcome to our new feature on the Not Just a Holiday blog. A weekly round-up of the best of the web’s travel experiences brought to you in a delicious ‘best of’ round-up.

We will point you to the best travel stories and experiences out there, whether it be something completely different or a great bit of advice that could provide you with some fantastic information on a familiar travel location.

We obviously also want to hear from you as well so if you know something that you want to tell everyone about please send us your story and if it’s good enough we will feature it in our weekly round-up

So, without further ado, here are our experiences of the week:

1) Simon Perry after his epic 35,000km bicycle journey from Alaska to Ushuaia – a truly awe-inspiring journey that took in 12 countries. Big respect to Simon and his outstanding trip, which also funded a great charity cause.

2) Going for a meal in Beijing? Another tale of male daring/foolishness when ordering spicy food abroad. Good stuff from the Telegraph travel team.

3) Around India in 140 seconds.  Lovely video from the always excellent Almost Fearless team.  Emotive, interesting and beautiful.

And so it begins…

Like a lovingly prepared Spanish paella, our deliciously tasty NotJustaHoliday.com website is being lovingly prepared and it won’t be long until it’s ready to present and serve – our writers are cooking up a storm and are back from their travels and beavering away at London HQ, busy writing about the delights they have discovered.

So what can we tell you at this stage? Well, we have got a very strong South American flavour for our initial feature countries. We have covered Costa Rica, Colombia and Guatemala and we are building up to what could be a wonderful guide to Argentina. Que rico!

And keeping things Spanish we have also sneaked in a great guide about Spain, which explores some of the lesser known delights of what can seem a very familiar tourist attraction. All our team have all reported that although it’s easy to find lovely places while they are away, it’s something entirely else trying to find ‘something’ that has got that offer that little bit extra – a place that practically guarantees that your holiday is a truly memorable one.

We hope that you are going to find our guides useful – it’s all about making sure that when you decide to go away, you have got some pretty fantastic options to choose from.

On another note, here’s a great photo that we received from our team this week – it’s from down-town Buenos Aires and shows a couple of locals hanging out (literally) on a busy street in Buenos Aires, we guess taking the chance to catch-up on the latest traffic news.

Hanging out in Buenos Aires!

Hasta pronto!

Lonely Planet's 10 Places of Myth and Legend

Ok, so the Lonely Planet seems to have turned into a ‘Top 10′ guide to everything travel related but so what, if that’s what people want… (although we prefer the old ‘independent’ Lonely Planet spirit!).

But we really liked the 10 Places of Myth and Legend article that was released this week because it contained ideas for two of our favourite countries – Colombia and Tanzania.  Not only that we may sheepishly add, but they featured two locations that we have not had the pleasure of visiting yet.

So, rather than tell you how excited we are about getting out there and discovering these fantastic locations, we will point you to the Lonely Planet‘s guide to what looks like two fascinating places.
